Wolverines win two, lose one at HLP Invite

South O'Brien added two matches to their win total before suffering a loss in their finale at the Harris-Lake Park Volleyball Invitational October 10 at Lake Park. The Wolverines downed the host Wolves 2-0 to begin pool play. After a two-match break, South O'Brien returned to defeat George Little Rock 2-0. The Wolverines' match with Newell-Fonda saw a hard-fought first set go South O'Brien's way. The Mustangs then took control of the match, winning 2-1. In the match featuring the winners of the two pools, Newell-Fonda edged Kingsley-Pierson 14-21, 21-18 and 21-19.
The Wolverines came out on fire against Harris-Lake Park, taking a 15-2 lead en route to a 21-8 victory. The second set was a battle. South O'Brien broke a 12-12 tie with 5 straight points and went on to win 21-15.
George-Little Rock saw the Wolverines jump out to a 7-0 advantage in the first set, leading to a 21-10 South O'Brien win. In set two the teams were tied at 8-8 before the Wolverines moved out to a 13-8 lead. George-Little Rock got to within two points at 15-13 before South O'Brien claimed the 21-15 victory.
Newell-Fonda led the Wolverines 17-13 before South O'Brien got a side out and won five more points on the strength of Willa Sickelka's serving. The Wolverines went on to win 21-19. The Mustangs held the lead throughout the second set and their 21-13 triumph forced a third and deciding set. After a competitive early portion of the set, Newell-Fonda powered on to the 15-5 victory.
At the close of the day South O'Brien's season record stood at 10-12. As of press time there were no stats available for Saturday's Invite.
