Wolverines rally but come up short in District baseball loss to Gehlen


Case Moermond tossed three shutout innings at the start of the District tourney game.

After holding up its end of a pitchers' duel, South O'Brien found itself trailing by a seven run margin which soon became 11. Needing a win to prolong the season, the Wolverines answered with six runs, but in the end, Gehlen Catholic held on for a 12-7 victory in a Class 1A District 1 baseball tourney game played July 11 at Remsen.

Case Moermond got the mound start and matched Gehlen hurler Derek Von Arb through three scoreless innings. In the top of the fourth, the Jays broke through, using a double and a single to take a 1-0 lead.
