South O'Brien Beats Cherokee

Sydney Struve recorded two singles against Cherokee and scored twice.

The Wolverine Softball team traveled to Cherokee to pick up a 9-2 win on July 1. Kenna Bauer got the start on the mound and earned her first victory of the year. She threw five innings and allowed five hits, two runs (one earned), walked two and struck out five. Sydney Struve finished things up in the last two innings by allowing one hit and no runs while walking one and striking out four.

Kenna Bauer delivers a pitch to a Cherokee batter with Kaylee Jacobs ready at third base.

"The Wolverines were really in charge the entire game of play," explained Wolverine head coach Heather Struve. "We scored two runs in the first, six in the third and one in the seventh. We just couldn't quite put the game away early with the mercy rule. We were hitting the ball deep, but Cherokee's right and center fielders made some great catches to end some of our rallies." Hannah Dau and Struve each had two singles to lead the Wolverines' offense. Dau also recorded three RBI's and scored a run. Struve came in to score twice. Taryn Hintz, Abby Schreck, Willa Sickelka, and Sierra DeBoer all had base hits to help the Wolverine cause.
