March 19, 2020

Iowa's Ride Route

For now, an inaugural bike ride from Dubuque to Rock Rapids is set to begin Sunday July 12 and take a Friday tour of northwest Iowa from Emmetsburg to Sheldon. Covid-19 has risen to crucial levels in whether or not events take place. For now, Iowa's Ride is on with a close eye on the changing viral circumstance.

The 78-mile portion currently is mapped on B40 from Royal to Primghar taking a brief northern jog before heading into Primghar as one of its scheduled stops. From Primghar the route continues west to L40 where the route turns north again into archer for a possible stop before bedding down at Sheldon. Several individuals and groups from Primghar are busy putting together a great day for riders as they pass through and enjoy Primghar.

Iowa's Ride is new cross Iowa bike ride introduced in 2020 as an alternative to the frighteningly huge crowds and commercialism that have diverted the focus of the ride from the individualism and special features of Iowa's small and mid-sized communities. T.J. Jusckiewicz, Ride Director emphasizes the importance of focusing on the small communities. He says the ride is about supporting the communities affected by the ride. The ride is expected to be capped at about 2500 riders to keep it manageable for all of its pass-through and overnight communities. He goes on to explain that they want people to eat, drink and learn about the communities and the commercial food trucks will not be part of the festivities.

The ride organizers will have the usual protections: law enforcement assist/traffic control on the route, shag trucks for riders in need, bike shops, cross state shuttle, charters and more.
