Bishop Garrigan's fourth quarter surge denies Wolverines a state tourney berth

The game and a trip to state were in the balance as South O'Brien went toe-to-toe with Algona's Bishop Garrigan into the fourth quarter. It was then that the contest tilted decidedly in favor of the Golden Bears. Bishop Garrigan outscored the Wolverines by 19 points in the final six-and-a-half minutes to earn a 68-48 win in a Class 1A Substate 1 clash February 29 at Spencer.

The matchup paired two of the top four ranked teams in Class 1A. The fourth-ranked Golden Bears advance to the Boys State Basketball Tournament with a record of 22-2. Third-ranked South O'Brien closes out the season at...
