Shots don't fall for Wolverines in loss to St. Mary's

South O'Brien was unable to avenge last season's loss to Remsen St. Mary's in the boys substate tourney game, falling to the Hawks 51-40 December 14 at Paullina. The Wolverines' offensive struggles were spotlighted by the fact that they launched 20 three-point shots and were able to convert nary a one. The loss dropped South O'Brien to 0-1 in the War Eagle Conference.
St. Mary's led by only a bucket after one half of action but outscored the Wolverines 16-8 in the third quarter. The Hawks made seven of their 20 three-point tries and were 14-of-35 overall from the field for 40 percent. South O'Brien shot 36 percent (17-of-47). St. Mary's attempted 25 free throws, making 16. The Wolverines went to the line 14 times with six makes.
Jackson Louscher topped South O'Brien with 19 points. Tristan Wilson added seven points, Alex Presthus five, Zeke Lundquist four, Caden Hale three and Jake Wallin two. Wilson accounted for six of the team's 11 steals. Wallin grabbed seven rebounds and blocked a shot. Lundquist, who was in foul trouble, pulled down six caroms.
