School Board Members Seated

November 28, 2019

The School Board meeting was called to order without fanfare. The annual reconciliation report was explained and offered for approval of the board, which was given. The report balances the districts individual funds available and authorized for each of the district's individual activities and allowable spending categories.

Building principals and the Activities Director gave their reports. The South O'Brien School Board retired three members on Wednesday November 20. Leaving the board were Tom Wagner, Sandy Fritz and Todd Faust. Wagner was the at-large representative and the sitting president of the board. His seat was filled by John Beck of Sutherland in a contest at the ballot box. Sandy Fritz served the east side of the City of Paullina. Brenda Kruse now represents that area of the school district. Faust had served on behalf of the most southeast part of South O'Brien School District. Beth Sibenaller-Woodall replaced him. Julie Paulsen remains in the seat she filled when Sue McCauley moved out of her district. Sharla Rupert was selected to remain as the board secretary. Marty Weber retains the treasurer.

Board members made organizational decisions to get the new business year of the district, disrupted by the change of date in elections. Gina Paulsen was selected as the board president with Kevin Nelson being named vice president. Committee appointments were made.

Deposit limits at each bank were set. Legal counsel and an official newspaper were named. The meeting day and time was changed to third Monday of each month at 6:30pm in the conference room at Paullina. Anyone wanting an item on the agenda can do so through either the superintendent or the board president.

Learning opportunities for new board members were announced. The final item on the agenda was to go into closed session to consider real estate purchase.
