Annual FFA Fruit Sales Fundraiser

By Kylie Swanson and Arianna Frerk

The South O'Brien FFA's annual fruit sales fundraiser has come to an end. Mr. Kumm, FFA chapter advisor, says, "It is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we appreciate all the support from the communities.  It allows our chapter members to participate in leadership and career development events throughout the year." President Sean Negus agrees adding, "It's the main fundraiser for the FFA as it pays for the costs of our trips and competitions. It's always great seeing so much community support."  Although the sales have concluded, fruit customers should mark their calendars for the pick-up day, Monday, December 2, from 3:30-8:00 p.m. Customers can pick up their orders from North Campus where FFA members will be present to carry fruit boxes out to vehicles.

Every year around October and November, the chapter members sell a variety of fruits including apples and oranges, and other top products, such as beef jerky and cheese assortments.  Sierra DeBoer, senior FFA member and top fruit seller for the last three years, commented on how making these sales has impacted her. She said, "I have improved my speaking skills while visiting with people that I sell to." She adds, "It is a lot of work, but it is worth it. People love to see young kids getting involved in FFA, and they always love the FFA fruit."
