The Wolverines faced Akron Westfield last Friday night in the final regular season home game of 2019. This game was very important to the Wolverines for a couple of reasons. First of all it was Homecoming/Parents night. The second very important reason was the Wolverines needed to get things going after an upset loss to Lemars Gehlen a week earlier.

The game started well for the Wolverines on a warm windy night in Paullina. The Wolverines received the opening kick and marched 61 yards for the touchdown. Tristan Wilson ran 5 yards and Riley Davis kicked the extra point to make the score 7-0 Wolverines with 10:04 to go in the first quarter.

The next score for the Wolverines came on a 7 play drive in the 2nd quarter. The drive started on the 24 yard line and it culminated with a 37 yard run by Tristan Wilson. Riley Davis' PAT kick attempt failed and the Wolverines led 13-0 with 5:41 to go in the second quarter.

The visiting Westerners put together a drive later in the second quarter. They made it all the way to the 4 yard line where on 4th and goal, Sean Negus intercepted a pass and gave the Wolverines the ball on the 3 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Tristan Wilson ran 97 yards for a Wolverine touchdown. We did a great job up front on that particular play. The offensive line really moved some guys and Tristan was off to the races. Jackson Louscher sneaked across the goal line for the two point conversion and the Wolverines led 21-0 with 1:51 to go in the 2nd quarter.

The second half was more of the same with the Wolverines first score of the 2nd quarter coming on a 38 yard run by Tristan Wilson. The offensive line really got focused in the third quarter and were opening up some nice holes. Riley Davis PaT kick missed the mark and the Wolverines led 27-0 with 9:12 to go in the third quarter.

The final score for the Wolverines came with 1:53 to go in the 3rd quarter. Tristan Wilson scored his 5th touchdown of the evening on a 22 yard run. Jackson Louscher sneaked across the goal line and the Wolverines led 35-0.

Tristan Wilson finished the night with 26 carries for 328 yards and 5 touchdowns. He set the South O'Brien single game rushing record that was held previously by Sam Nelson in the 2016 season. Riley Davis also had 2 carries for 29 yards and Jackson Louscher had 3 carries for 17 yards and was 1/1 passing for 11 yards.

Defensively, the Wolverines were led by Sean Negus with 3 solos and 7 assists. He had two TFL's and an interception. Kanner Bauer and Andrew Myers also had interceptions and Darian Keith had a fumble recovery.

Next week the Wolverines travel to Hinton for a District 1 showdown with the Hinton Blackhawks. The winner secures the district championship and may get a home game for the 2019 playoffs.
