Winterizing the Garden Presentations to be held in September

August 22, 2019

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa – Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach Horticulture Program Coordinator Dawn Henderson will present “Putting Your Garden to Bed for the Winter” at three different locations in Northwest Iowa during September.

As fall arrives, gardeners will begin winterizing their garden for the year.

“Fall is right around the corner, so we must start thinking about winterizing our gardens to prepare them for the cold season ahead, and to help us get a jumpstart on next year’s garden,” Henderson said. “There are certain things we can do now to prepare for next spring and to help our garden deal with the cold weather and snow ahead of us.”

Henderson shared that during each presentation, attendees will discuss cleaning up the garden, composting, disease, insect carry-over and other preparations for winter. There will also be time for participants to ask questions and share ideas.

The program will be held at the following locations on the date listed:

Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Rock Valley Public Library;

Monday, Sept. 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the ISU Extension and Outreach Lyon County Office in Rock Rapids;

Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the ISU Extension and Outreach O’Brien County Office in Primghar.

*There is no fee to attend or pre-registration necessary for the programs,” Henderson said. “Select the date and location option that works best for you and join us at 6:30 p.m.”
