Dog Creek Repairs

August 8, 2019

M21 is temporarily closed by Dog Creek Park to allow replacement of the drainage pipe under the road.

Highway M12 between Highway 10 and Highway B60 is closed to through traffic. The closure occurred Tuesday August 6 to allow for repair to a drainage pipe. Access to Dog Creek Park and both campgrounds is open. Visitors must enter from the south for south campgrounds and bins, and from the north for the north campgrounds and beach area. The closure is expected to last just 3 or 4 days.

The drainage pipe at the east end of dog creek allows water to flow out of the lake into a deep ravine. That pipe was found to be in poor condition earlier this summer. Instead of tearing out the road and roadbed to replace the pipe, the county engineer's office investigated other repair options. They and O'Brien County Conservation Board members are having the pipe lined to prevent leaking and erosion to the ground under the pipe. Savings to the county for this kind of repair are considerable. The lining project is expected to cost less than $70,000 and will interrupt park visitors very little.

That section of M12 and the pipe under it are estimated at 50 years old.
