Zion-St. John Lutheran School Begins August 25 - Zion and St. John Lutheran Church will make a Christian Education available to their member's and members of the community who would like a Christian education for their child. Both churches have provided a school for their children since the early 1900's.

Former Paullina resident is featured in trade magazine - A former longtime Paullina resident and former South O'Brien High School teacher was recently featured in an article in Material Handling Engineering, a prominent nationally distributed, trade magazine. Mario Griebel, the corporate instructor for Schaeff, Inc., informed the magazine readers of the importance of proper forklift operator training, and how OSHA's new forklift training regulations will affect the industry.

State Representative Dan Huscman and State Senator Mary Lou Freeman provided full service to customers at the First Coop station in Paullina last week. The two were promoting the use ethanol, a cornbased renewable fuel. Mike Otto photo. Area state legislators promote the use of ethanol by pumping gas, washing windshields at Paullina gas station etc. Ethanol supporters say that it is a homegrown fuel that can help the U.S. become independent from imported oil.

Larrabee Fun Days Saturday - The Larrabee Fun Day's activities get underway at 8:30 a.m. with a fun run and walk. A Bike Rodeo will be held at 10 a.m. followed by childrens costume judging at 10:30 a.m. The parade through the business district is set for 11, a.m. Musical entertainment starts at 11:30 a.m.

Grassley Listening Post open meeting in Primghar Monday - U. S. Senator Chuck Grassley will hold a Listening Post meeting with area residents from 2-3:15 p.m., Monday, August 14, in the O'Brien County Courthouse assembly room at Primghar.

Council OK's Development Corporation - During its regular Monday meeting, the Paullina City Council adopted a resolution providing for cooperation with other governmental units in creation and operation of the O'Brien County Economic Development Corporation.

1979 - 40 years ago

City Curb And Gutter Project - At the regular City Council meeting held on Monday night, August 6, 1979, the Council heard a progress report on the new curb and gutter project from Howard Bigelow, Engineer of the project. He reported that preliminary survey work would be completed by August 30. If you notice men surveying in your neighborhood, they are from the Bigelow Engineering firm conducting the necessary surveys for final design of the curb and gutter.

Football Meeting August 15 - Paullina Football coach, Dave Walkup, has called the annual summer squad meeting for the Paullina Football team and the parents of the team members. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 15. The parents are invited to meet at 7 o'clock in the high school building. They will meet with Coach Walkup and assistant coaches Gary Kruse and Mark Schnoes for approximately one half hour.
