Lady Wolverines earn methodical win over Unity Christian

Jordan Nieuwenhuis' night against Unity Christian included a homer, a double and five RBI's.

The South O'Brien Softball Team scored runs in all but two innings of play, downing Unity Christian 11-2. The War Eagle Conference game was played June 26 at Orange City.

Neither team scored in the first inning, where each team recorded a double play, which was quite unusual. The Wolverines got two runs in the second, three in the third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth. The Knights tallied just once in the fourth and once in the fifth. South O'Brien looked like it was going to end the game by the 10-run rule, but just could never quite get the job finished.

The Wolverines ended up with nine total hits on the night. Jordan Nieuwenhuis had a big night with a home run, a double, five RBI's and a run. Sydney Struve hit a double and a single and scored three times. Anna Friedrichsen ripped a double, scored twice and drove in a run. Taryn Hintz also had a double and scored two times. Gabby Heeren, Hannah Dau, and Liz Maurer each hit a single.

Bailey Tjossem started on the mound and went three innings, allowing no runs or hits. She struck out one, hit one batter and issued no walks. Struve came in for the remaining four innings and yielded one hit and two earned runs. She walked four, struck out five and hit two batters. Tjossem picked up the win in the conference contest.
