Little Sioux River No Longer Flowing Over Dam At Linn Grove

There is no longer water flowing over the dam at Linn Grove; spring flooding has caused the Little Sioux River to re-route itself south of the current dam site and reconnect with the river down stream.

The Flooding of 2019 has been epic throughout the Midwest, with high water on the Little Sioux River and other area rivers multiple times throughout the spring. The high water at the dam in Linn Grove has taken its toll on the area land and the dam itself. With the water receding, the high water has caused the river to cut a new channel and change the flow of the river. Apparently, above the dam the Little Sioux River is rushing to the south, going around the dam and reconnecting to the existing river path downstream. The Buena Vista County supervisors and Buena Vista County Conservation Department manage the dam site and will be discussing the issue at future meetings.
