"Big Cats of Iowa" at Prairie Heritage Center

The O'Brien County Conservation Board is hosting a guest speaker presenting information on the "Big Cats of Iowa." Mountain lions and bobcats are in the news. This will be an opportunity for you to learn about these large cats that can sometimes be spotted in our region.

Dr. William Clark, Professor Emeritus of Wildlife Ecology at Iowa State University, will be presenting at the Prairie Heritage Center, 4931 Yellow Ave, Peterson Iowa on Thursday, June 18 at 7:00 p.m.

The talk will begin with a brief overview of the history of cats in North America including the sabertooth cats and cheetahs that once roamed our continent. The presentation then transitions to the modern cat species including endangered species like ocelots and common species like bobcats. Mountain lions that occasionally show up in Iowa will also be featured along with a discussion of conservation challenges such as habitat loss, conflicts and Hunting.

The presentation includes many great photographs as well as hands on items such as skins and skulls. Make plans to attend!
