Wolverines drop conference opener to Hinton

South O'Brien's Baseball team began War Eagle Conference play May 31 by hosting Hinton at Paullina. The Blackhawks' five-run second gave pitcher Tate Linton all the help he would need as the visitors claimed an 11-0 win. Linton struck out 13 Wolverine batters in his five innings of work. Offensively, Hinton added three runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Taylor Steffens doubled for the home team while Matt Riedemann and Josh Johannsen each recorded a single. Case Moermond got the start and took the loss. His 3-2/3 innings stint included eight runs on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Four of the runs were earned. Steffens came on in relief in the fourth and worked 1-1/3 innings. His line showed three earned runs allowed on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
