Hannah Dau hands off to Wylee Sickelka in the 4x100 at State.

The Lady Wolverines' three days at the State Track and Field Meet featured scoring in six of nine events and nearly included a state championship. The 4x100 team of Hannah Dau, Wylee Sickelka, Sydney Struve and Willa Sickelka just missed out on first place in the finals. Their time of 50.95 was second to the 50.73 clocking turned in by the winning foursome from Tripola. South O'Brien did have the fastest time in the prelims with a 51.40. The eight points earned helped the Wolverines reach a team total of 16 points, good for 21st place in Class 1A for the meet held May 16-18 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Anna Friedrichsen earned a sixth-place medal and three team points in the discus with a throw of 121' 0". In the 200 meter dash, Willa Sickelka ran the seventh fastest time in the prelims with a 26.91. Her 27.26 clocking in the finals placed her eighth but earned her a medal and one team point.

The sprint medley relay unit of Dau, Struve, Wylee Sickelka and Willa Sickelka was first in its section with a time of 1:54.72. That represented the seventh fastest time overall and earned the foursome medals and two more team points. In the 4x200, the quartet of Wylee Sickelka, Taryn Hintz, Struve and Willa Sickelka finished sixth in the fastest of the three sections with a 1:49.24. That time was eighth overall and resulted in another set of medals and a team point.

Emily Chicoine also competed in the fastest section when she participated in the 400 meter hurdles. She was seventh in her section and eight overall, earning a medal and a team point. Chicoine actually won her section of the 400 meter dash, circling the famous blue track in 1:02.30. That clocking put her in 11th place overall.

South O'Brien had two competitors in the 100 meter dash. Annika Jenness was third in heat 2 with a 12.99 and Wylee Sickelka placed sixth in heat 3 with a 13.21. Neither time was fast enough to qualify for the finals. Overall for the prelims, Jenness was 11th and Sickelka 16th.

In the high jump Taryn Hintz was successful on her third attempt at 4' 10". That turned out to be her best jump and she placed 15th overall.
