Matt Riedemann and Kanner Bauer move on to State Meet

Layn Case placed second in the the long jump at the State Qualifying Meet.

The South O'Brien boys will have two representatives at this week's State Track and Field Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. Matt Riedemann will be competing in both the 110 hurdles and the high jump while Kanner Bauer will be hurling the discus. Despite finishing second in all three events at the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet held May 10 at Armstrong, their performances there were strong enough to earn a trip to State.

At Armstrong Riedemann ran the 110 hurdles in 15.52 while the winning time was 15.51. He cleared 6' 1" in the high jump, one inch short of the winning mark. Bauer's discus throw of 132' 1" trailed the first place distance of 133' 6".

The State Meet Schedule shows both of the Wolverines in competition on Friday. The high jump is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and the discus at 4:30. In between are the 110 hurdle prelims at 3:20 p.m. The hurdle finals are Saturday at 1:15 p.m.

Despite a second-place finish by Layn Case in the long jump, his effort of 18' 6" at the qualifying meet did not qualify him for state. Other Wolverine placings of note at Armstrong were Tristan Wilson's fourth-place finish in the 100 meters, Noah Fuhrman's sixth-place throw in the shot put, Case Moermond's seventh-place effort in the 110 hurdles and eighth-place finishes by Caden Hale in the 400 meter hurdles and Eric Mars in the 3200 meter run.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Moermond, Jackson Louscher, Case and Riedemann finished third. Placing fourth was the 4x100 unit of Bauer, Riedemann, Austin Paulsen and Sean Negus. The distance medley relay of Bauer, Hale, Louscher and Gavin Leng finished fifth. As a team, South O'Brien placed sixth in the 14-team field, scoring 65 points.
