Returning racers are ready for inspection to insure compliance with the rules and safety.

Once again the Primghar Jaycees invite the public to eight evenings throughout the summer fun and excitement at the Figure 8 Racetrack at the O'Brien County Fairgrounds. Each year since 1972, the dedicated volunteers host sanctioned Figure 8 races in Primghar. The Primghar Jaycees began operating the event in 1974. This year, the racing begins Saturday June 1.

Figure 8 races at Primghar are a significant source of funds for the Jaycees. In return they give back all that money into community projects. The list of their giving is extensive and generous. It is a good cause to support.

The races are scheduled at approximately every other week with a special Wednesday race as a county fair event. Two of the races, June 14 and June 28 are on Friday to accommodate Cobblestone days in Primghar and GEMboree in Paullina. A bonus race is held at the Plymouth County Fair on Sunday July 28.

Each year drivers must have their cars inspected to be sure they meet the rules and regulations of the track and in an effort to assure fair competition. This year nearly 40 drivers have registered a vehicle. Drivers are still being registered. Drivers and their "teams" come from all around O'Brien, Osceola, Lyon, Sioux, Plymouth, Clay and Buena Vista Counties. The draw of Figure 8 racing is strong and wide in the area. Interested persons can go to the Primghar Jaycee Facebook page to learn more.

A new class is being added this year for beginner drivers. It is a front wheel drive class. These cars are considered less costly for startup. The roll cage is already installed and the investment to race them is less. Nine drivers so far are registered for this class.

Getting the car ready for inspection for the upcoming season of races.

The event takes about 80 volunteers each race to properly organize each heat of drivers, monitor, referee and score the drivers. Fire and ambulance service is required to be onsite throughout each race. Injuries are very rare. The very affordable concession stand must be staffed, too. Where else can a person get a $1 hot dog?

Not for profit groups are being sought to work in the concession stand. Any group interested in collecting 10-12 people to work in exchange for a donation to their specific cause can contact organizers through Facebook or email at primgharjaycees@tcaexpress.net.

Admission for adults is $5.00 per race or $2.00 for children 5-12. Four and under are free. Season tickets are available at the gate opening night only. Adult season tickets are $35 and children season tickets are $14. Season tickets are for races at Primghar only.
