The Prairie Heritage Center, located in the southeast corner of O'Brien County hosted "Colors of the Wind" Saturday March 23. The center always has interesting displays and learning activities accompanying the displays. On Saturday, O'Brien County Naturalist Charlene Elyea was ready for a crowd of young people to come in and make their own kite and then fly them. The weather was a perfect kite-flying day; cool and breezy with no rain!

Lets Go Fly A Kite I Made!

The main meeting room was overflowing with kids and parents constructing and decorating Tyvek kites. A beeline for flying was made by each of the kids as their kites became wind worthy. Kites got away a few times with the strings tangling in the prairie flower stalks the held to topsoil in place for a new generation of prairie coming soon.

About 20 kids enjoyed about a half hour to build the kite and as much time, about an hour to fly. Prairie Heritage Center offered a fantastic place to fly kites.
