40 years ago – 1979

Calumet Senior Citizens to Hold Paper Drive - Calumet Senior Citizens will be holding a paper drive on Wednesday, March 28 at 9:00 a.m. So please have your papers wrapped in bundles, outside your door so they can be picked up. The only magazine they will accept is the Wallace Farmer.

Jerry Balers To Celebrate Twenty-Fifth - Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Balers will celebrate their silver wedding anniversary on March 24 with a reception and dance at the Peterson Legion Hall, Peterson. The reception will be from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and the dance from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Music will be provided by the Cliff Lee Band. All are invited to attend.

Smorgasbord For Legion Members - On Thursday, March 22, 1979, at 6:30 p.m. there will be a free smorgasbord at the Sutherland Legion Hall for all Legionnaires and their wives of Post 152 and all Sutherland Auxiliary members.

30 years ago – 1989

Annual Easter Egg Hunt - Sutherland youth are invited to take part in the Sutherland Commercial Club's Annual Easter Egg Hunt, which will be held on Saturday, March 25 at 1 p.m. in the yard at Millies Rest Home. The event, which usually takes place in the City Park, will be held at the Rest Home this year to enable the residents to enjoy watching the children. The Easter Bunny is scheduled to be at the hunt to shake hands with the children and help hand out treats and prizes! Everyone is invited to cornel In case of inclement weather, the hunt will be held inside of Millies Rest Home.

20 years ago – 1999

Fessler coaches team to third national title - Paul Fessler, son of Carl and Shirley Fessler of Calumet, and his Anoka-Ramsey Community College women's Basketball team won a three-peat at the NJCAA Division HI Tournament. ARCC opened the tournament by defeating Suffolk County of Seldon, NY 75-43. They then defeated Ocean County of Toms River, NJ 74-66. They won their third national title by a win over Jefferson of Watertown, NY 68-62.
