Velora "Val" Darling

July 15, 1922 – December 5, 2018

Velora Darling passed away in Santa Monica, CA on December 5, 2018. She was the daughter of Carl and Dorthea (Neilsen) Howe. She was born and raised on a farm near Paullina, Iowa, and graduated from Paullina High School. After high school, Velora took a train to California to help with the war effort where she was a riveter on WWII planes. In 1944 she joined the US Marines and was stationed at El Toro Marine Air Station in Santa Ana. After her discharge in 1946, she spent the majority of her life in California, excepting stints in Idaho and trips to Canada and Alaska.

Velora was a licensed Real Estate Agent working as a team with her husband Del Darling. Her interests included camping, travel, jewelry design, reading and hiking. She was a wonderful person who made friends easily with her great sense of humor.

Preceding Velora in death were her husband Del, daughter Debi, her parents, and her six siblings: Gladys Warnke, Lila Limke, Golda Kelly, Elaine Bern, Allan Howe, and Audrey Sudtelgte. She is survived by her son-in-law Richard (Coleen) Darling, her seven grandchildren: Rick (Patty), Michael, Justin, Tyler, Braeden, Christopher, Brianna, and her five great-grandchildren: Jennifer, Madison, Megan, Hunter and EmiLee.

A private family service will be held on December 23, 2018 in California.
