Wolverines slip past Remsen St. Mary's

Although not a conference game, the contest between South O'Brien and Remsen St. Mary's featured two teams expected to contend for the War Eagle Conference boys Basketball crown. South O'Brien built a six-point lead after three quarters and came away with a 63-60 triumph November 30 at Paullina. With the win, the Wolverines moved to 2-0 on the young season.

The tandem of Jackson Louscher and Zeke Lundquist helped offset a 34-point night by the Hawks' Spencer Schorg. Louscher totaled 17 points and Lundquist scored 16. Layn Case added nine points for the victors while Tristan Wilson and Alex Presthus each contributed seven points. Rounding out the Wolverine scoring were Case Moermond with five points and Sean Negus with two.

Louscher added six rebounds and seven assists and Case came away with four steals. Contributing on the boards were Lundquist with six rebounds and Wilson and Moermond, each with four.

South O'Brien outshot the Hawks 51 percent (20 of 39) to 45 percent (20 of 44). St. Mary's canned four three-pointers and the Wolverines three. The winners were aided by 20-for-25 free throw shooting while the Hawks went 16-for-27 at the line. Blaine Harpenau and Skyler Waldschmitt each chipped in with nine points for St. Mary's with Brady Homan adding five points, Noah Schroeder two points and Austin Jensen one.
