Lady Wolverines blast Alta-Aurelia in hoop opener

Hannah Dau’s 24 points led four Wolverines in double figures as South O’Brien tipped off the girls Basketball season with an 81-39 crushing of Alta-Aurelia November 20 at Alta. Taryn Hintz chipped in with 16 points while Erin Wagner and Megan Waterman each added 10.

The Wolverines surged to an 18-6 lead after one quarter and the advantage was 45-14 at the half. In the game, South O’Brien also got eight points from Sydney Struve, five from Gabby Heeren, four from Breana Bottjen and two from both Riley Draper and Wylee Sickelka.

Dau finished with six assists and Struve had three. South O’Brien outshot the Warriors 50 percent (32 of 64) to 29 percent (14 of 48). The Wolverines sank 14 of 23 free throw attempts. Alta-Aurelia attempted just two free throws, making one.

South O’Brien owned a 41-17 advantage on the boards. Hintz grabbed 10 rebounds and Sickelka and Wagner each claimed six. Struve came away with three steals and Dau and Hintz each blocked a pair of shots.
