School Board Addresses Higher Than Expected Costs

In the regular Board of Education meeting on Wednesday October 17 discussion toward the difficulty in filling open positions and the financial report were the highlights.
Superintendent Dan Moore reported that while the general fund is tight it is not in bad shape. He explained that the general guide for the South O’Brien School District is to budget $7.2 million for a fiscal year. Historic spending of the SOCS district shows a strong adherence to that goal. In fiscal 2018, however, spending reached about $7.4 million. He explained a few key factors that may have driven that result.
