Sophomores, juniors, seniors and their families were invited to attend a ceremony on March 28 honoring them for their academic achievement at South O'Brien High School. This event has been a tradition at South O'Brien for more than 12 years. High School Principal Mr. Bruder and Counselor Mrs. Flynn recognize the students and hand out academic awards.

In order to qualify for an academic award, students must maintain a grade average of 3.5 or above for at least two consecutive semesters. They must also have a full class load. First year award winners receive two pins and an academic patch. Second and third year winners receive pins. This year's guest speaker was Mike Cooper of Primghar who is a parent to 4 South O'Brien students. He used puzzle pieces to explain how students might not always see how they fit in in the world. But if they look at the big picture, they can see how they can fit.

Academic Awards Seniors: Senior Letter Winners include (front) Alicyn Rehder, Dawson Weathers, Alec Schoof, Peyton Brasser, Emily Mars, (back) Paige Ginger, Drew Faust, Clay Leng, Jade Goebel, Shandra Goosen, and Amelia Faust.
